Kerten, private equity firm

Investment strategy

We identify and invest in strong operating businesses in Central, Eastern and South Europe who share our passion for success, our spirit of entrepreneurship and our ethos of diligence and persistence.

Our preference is to acquire majority holdings in businesses whose owners are also hands-on managers. We will work closely with management and co-owners to grow the business, maximise its profitability and cash flow and, in the fullness of time, exit from the business.

The business should be established a minimum of 3 years, growing rapidly, cash generative and demonstrate real competitive advantage, including strong market and brand position and /or proprietary technology . The support we offer includes:

  • capital to support the growth and value enhancement of the business
  • optimising the capital structure of the business
  • identifying key value and growth opportunities and supporting in their execution
  • leveraging our network of international and industry sector contacts to identify and execute sales opportunity
  • professionalise management and work practices
  • support management in any other way

We do not concentrate on specific sectors, we invest in businesses in a variety of sectors that meet our criteria of excellent managers driving excellent businesses. Having said that, the sectors we believe will demonstrate outperformance in the years ahead include business services, food and food ingredient production, health, energy and infrastructure delivery and services.

In addition to providing expansion capital, we are also willing to support traditional buy-outs (LBOs, MBOs, MBIs), lead public to private transactions, and assist with family wealth planning where successful entrepreneurs wish to dispose (or partially dispose) of a business in order to diversify assets. We look particularly favourably on investment opportunities in which management and/or promoters have a meaningful amount of their own funds invested in the business.
